1986 was the last year the Mongoose brand was owned by the original founder Skip Hess. The original looptail framed Mongoose Expert bike was produced between 1982 and 1996. The Mongoose Expert was a low to mid-range all-rounder BMX bike, built for general street riding. Colours included chrome, black, white, grey and brilliant blue.

Rescued from a suburban kerb side pile of rubbish, destined for land-fill, the bike was in 100% original condition including the original partially worn tyres. The frame had minimal fading to the paint, and was in great condition with minor scratches to the handlebars, forks, down tube and chain stays. The chain, spokes, brake cable clamps and headset were completely rusted and in need of replacement. Tyre and brake pad rubber had almost completely perished and the chain guard was broken. The Lee Chi MX brakes, cranks, chain spider and chainring were salvageable, but in need of restoration. The black plastic pedals were slightly damaged. The original black pad set, anodised blue Pro Class Rim liners blue seat and original Mongoose grips were sun damaged and faded. The chrome plated Dia Compe MX seat clamp had heavy pitting in the chrome and rusted bolts.

This rare, old school 1986 Mongoose Expert BMX bike is currently undergoing a complete restoration.
