1980 Madison Terrain Cruiser 26″ old school BMX – Goanna

The Madison Terrain Cruiser was built by Cycles Australia in 1980. It appears they were only made for that single year.

The frame included a unique design with the sloped top tube. The seat stays also feature a gusset either side where they meet the the seat tube. Overall the frame geometry is very upright, and your legs over the bottom bracket. Both the Madison Terrain Cruiser and Madison Goanna feature the same basic frame. There were possibly two slight variations of the frame, the difference is a small variation of the position of the top tube welded to the seat tube.

There are only a handful of these old school 26″ cruiser BMX bikes still around – most of which have been kept in survivor rider condition. The Madison Terrain Cruiser and Madison Goanna came in a few colours back in the day – including Black, Green, Gold and Blue. There is a chrome Madison Goanna in existence however it is unknown whether they were originally sold in chrome. The frames were made from high-ten steel and both bikes were designed to ride with a coaster brake only. The frame featured a coaster brake tab on the rear non-drive side.

There is only a limited amount of information on these two classic early 80’s Australia BMX cruiser bikes.

I was lucky enough to buy a frame and for set in OK condition and had it built up for one summer of old school fun BMX riding and cruising. For more information on the 1980 Madison Terrain Cruiser and the 1980 Madison Goanna Cruiser, read more.
